For Flash Fiction 55
Gregor Samsa
I was once called
a caring human who once provided
love, comfort, not dread.
Altered by life’s cruel joke
I am now redefined -
a monstrous vermin
scurrying up walls
disquieted by those that fear
and fail to see
the me trapped inside this hard shell
metamorphosed
into something I never wanted to become.

G-Man over at Flash Fiction 55 posted on Kafka and I quickly put together this little bitty, my own synopsis of Kafka's Metamorphosis. I've read Kafka, he of the light- and hope-filled prose and have to say I'm not much of a fan. His novellas and short stories are all dark, gritty, vile, shocking, barbaric, inhumane, brutal...gotta say, someone who can create such stories - which I give him kudos for they were good in their own very dark way - still manages to scare the hell out of me...

Now that's a scary thought.
Oh no! If this is some sort of payback for the way I've mistreated bugs, I am in deep doo-doo!
Wow - fabulous 55!
I've never read Kafka but now I don't want to. Like the poem though.
CD
The word "metamorphosed" has now been added to my vocabulary. Nicely done.
This was absolutely PERFECT!
Love him OR Hate him... This made for a Great 55 inspiration.
Excellent story my Friend.
Thank you for playing, thanks for visiting, and have a Kick Ass Week-End...G
Thats a bit of a BUGGER.

Not even a tiny bit...Here's my Friday 55. Hope your week goes well
Time to get out the Borax and sprinkle it along all my baseboards!
I could swear I saw a movie like that, where a man gradually morphed into a cockroach.
(Now I wanna see if I can find it!)
Fun 55, Rebecca!
Have a great weekend!
I LOVE the depth of this 55. It's metamorphized metaphor really calls out to me. I am also up...with history.
Now THIS is purely Kafkaesque! Well done!
Crazy... Fun 55...

I'm always learning something new - Flash Fiction 55!
No, I managed to avoid Kafka, and now I'm glad I did.
Now I want to spray the house for bugs. I no likey the bugs.
Ditto to Brian's comment I was thinking along the same lines.. I must say you did capture the true essence of Gregor Samsa the fictional character in The Metamorphosis, a novella by Franz Kafka, who tries to live his life after having been transformed into a 'monstrous insect/vermin.'
Kudos to you,
Joanny

The roach with a man's shadow certainly plays mind games - just like your words! :0)
nice one,
your bug looks cute to me,
Happy Belated Friday!
my 55
I love Kafka.
Long time Rebecca, how have you been?
I haven't read Kafka in years. Honestly...I think I prefer your version. Not a word wasted.
Very mansquito-ish. Watch out syfy channel.
Love this interpretation of Kafka.
I'm new here. *waves* Nice to meet you. I think I might possibly have a crush on your blog.
Lola--> out.
How well your chosen picture fits the poem (and vice versa of course). This is pretty scary - I'd rather be a cat than an insect.
I've never read Kafka. However, I have to say for you to just 'quickly' put something together, this is amazing. And yes, the visual gave me the creepy crawlies.
i'm not sure how you did it, but you made me sympathetic to a bug :) well done, friend! this is art. i'm so glad you linked. (do you mind adding a URL so others can join in the imperfect prose community? just wondering... thanks!)
Incredibly brilliant, mi amor... and this was "quickly put together"? Wow!
:-D
(((hugs))),
love,
me
This is beautiful. Way to capture that story!! I love it.
