Gentle Father's Day Love....

Your eyes reflected a sadness today. And then you spoke, "I miss my Dad so much right now Rebecca."

Of course you do. This is a first for you. Your first year without him on Father's Day, the first of a year filled with firsts - first birthday without him, first Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year. On each of these dates, he will not only be remembered, but missed the most. It's natural.

But know that although the pain of loss resides within those gentle palpating chambers of your heart, there also resides an entire life of memories that will bring a smile to your face. It's the yin and yang of life.

We will be here for you, your daughter and I. We will make sure those tears turn into smiles and then laughter. We will make sure that the remembrance is filled with memories of joy and celebrate not only you today but him as well.

I celebrate him because without him you would have never been.
I celebrate him because without him you would not have turned out to be the man you are today. He was a good teacher, a good man, a good father and he taught you well.

And I celebrate you because you are kind of heart, abundant in your love, selfless to a fault, charming, intelligent, quirky and fun. I celebrate you because your love has transformed me; your smile captivated me; your heart forever holding me your prisoner.

And so to you, my beautiful man, I wish you a most gentle Father's Day. We will cry with you today, we will smile and also laugh with you today. We will hold your hands in ours and know we will take good care of you. You are deeply loved and you are not alone. You are never alone. We got you, my love. We got you....

So loving and beautiful. A love letter with such deep honesty and caring. I often say that Love doesn't require a body. Bodies are just temporary vessels with boundaries; Love is boundless! And yet, I would really really love to buy my mom a gift on Mother's Day, so I understand.
