Goddess Gaia

Gaia
Goddess of Earth
your core sustains us
your beauty,
flawless natural perfection

you slumber peacefully
trusting us with our care
resting serenely
within Earth’s lair

yet we abuse your generosity
dining greedily at your table
refusing others
as they wither away in starvation

we fail to honor
the lives of your animals
slaying them without regard,
their crimson tears
seeping into your pores
carrying witness
of cruelties suffered at our hands

i observe you Goddess Gaia
i feel you Mother Earth
hearing the cries of the poor
feeling the pain of the slain
as you weep torrents
for having misjudged,
and entomb yourself
deeper, further
into your own tears
of anguished pain

Beautifully written, yet so sadly true. It's been a while since I've been over here, due to computer issues, but I'm glad to have the chance to stop by and say 'hello'. :)

Fascinating picture. Lovely poem. Yesterday I watched a huge spider cross the pavement in front of me, lumbering slowly. I stopped as if an invisible sidewalk had appeared and the right of way was given to all critters, no matter how small. I waited for it to safely enter the wilderness edge and felt better for it.

Beautiful picture and poem. How awful it is to be human: to kill all the polar bears and feel bad about it too.
